STORY TACO
Used in the primary grades, the Story Taco is an excellent strategy to use to help students identify important information within a text. To assemble a story taco, students need a paper plate, red, green, brown, and yellow paper. After folding the paper in half, students will write the word "topic" on the brown piece of paper. Next, cut the green piece of paper to look like lettuce and write "characters" on it. Finally, write "setting" on the red piece of paper and "plot" on the yellow piece of paper. Either during or after reading, students will answer the questions on each ingredient of the story taco. Not only does this strategy give students an opportunity to work on their story elements, it also provides them with a chance to reflect on the main components of the story and their comprehension within the the text.
