"Decoding is part of the process of figuring out a new word that you meet in a text, but unless you also know the meaning of the word you haven't solved it; you don't have complete access to the meaning of the text" (p. 369). Readers are always trying to decode and interpret the meaning of words, but they develop strategies for remembering, understanding, and learning. By decoding the meaning of words and understanding the meaning, this will help readers improve their comprehension skills and recalling skills because they will understand the content. There are a number of strategies for reader to use to help them decode words and new vocabulary as they are reading.
